Atlanta’s Music Midtown Revived with Coldplay, Black Keys

Music Midtown, from 1994 through 2005, brought big name music acts such as Crosby, Stills & Nash, Bob Dylan and Foo Fighters into downtown Atlanta. Then growing competition from Bonnaroo, that little festival based in Tennessee, as well as the tropical storm in 2005 that ravaged that year’s festival, caused Music Midtown organizers to cancel the 2006 event and it has yet to return. Until now, that is.

The Black Keys and Coldplay will be headlining a revamped Music Midtown in a one day version of the event at Piedmont Park in Atlanta on September 24. Other confirmed acts scheduled to appear include The Postelles, Mona, The Constellations, Young the Giant, Manchester Orchestra, The Joy Formidable, Band of Skulls and Cage the Elephant.

One day passes will be going on sale starting July 16 and will cost $55. In addition, VIP packages will be available. Visit the festival’s website at musictown.com for full ticketing information.

In a recent Atlanta Journal-Constitution interview Peter Conlon, a co-founder of Music Midtown said, we’ve decide to scale down the festival’s approach. We need to once again build up our core audience. Basically we want to build the acts to entice people to come out and really enjoy the music. However organizers still are looking to add a single-act Friday night concert onto the event.
