Sammy Hagar Celebrates ‘Four Decades of Rock’ With Summer Tour

Sammy Hagar will head out on his own for a short tour late this summer. As you may expect from the choice to call the trek the “Four Decades of Rock” tour, Hagar will be performing songs from all points of his extensive career.

This includes his first widely known position as the frontman for Montrose in the 1970s, which found him singing songs including “Rock Candy,” “Bad Motor Scooter” and “Paper Money.” In the subsequent years he alternated between a solo career and as frontman for Van Halen. As a solo artist, you probably know his hits “Red,” “Trans Am” and the awesome 80s-ness of “I Can’t Drive 55.”

The tour will kick off August 18 at the Cactus Petes Resort Casino Amphitheater in Jackpot, Nev., and the trek will run through a September 7 San Francisco date at the America’s Cup Pavilion. Other cities he will visit include Chicago; Saint Paul, Minn.; Clarkston, Mich.; Toronto and Stateline, Nev.

Hagar’s band for the tour will feature his former Montrose cohorts Denny Carmassi and Bill Church, as well as Michael Anthony on bass. Anthony played with Hagar in Van Halen, and also is part of the supergroup Chickenfoot, which features Hagar, Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith.

Of course, Hagar’s not only about the music. The man also is known for his Cabo Wabo tequila, and he’s recently released a new brand to his line of spirits: Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum. He says he made the rum for the same reason he made his tequila: “I want something of quality I can enjoy myself!”

In even more Hagar news, a judge recently ruled that he did not defame a woman in his 2011 memoir. A former Playboy bunny only identified as Jane Doe, filed a lawsuit in 2011 for defamation. She claimed that the mention of an alleged affair in the book violated a 1989 confidentiality agreement the two settled on after she claimed to have a child fathered by the singer at the time.
