Frequently Asked Questions
What songs will Queens of the Stone Age play in concert?
Queens of the Stone Age released their latest album Like Clockwork in 2013. It comes far later than their last record, Era Vulgaris in 2007. This marks the longest period of time between albums for the band, leaving fans a bit restless awaiting new material.
It comes as little surprise to hear the Queens leaning heavily into this new record. The band will play close to half of the new record, coming to about 5-6 tracks. The psychedelic experimental drug track, “My God is the Sun,” is a mainstay, especially early in the set. “I Sat by the Ocean” and “If I Had a Tail” are not only fan favorites, but tracks that make the setlist of every concert the QOTSA have performed in the last year.
The band does not forego their earlier material. They usually stick to the big hits, notably “No One Knows” with its earth-shattering bass work and “Sick, Sick, Sick” from 2007. The group also brings out the laid-back groovy tune, “Make It Wit Chu.”
Queens open almost every show with the mouthful, “You Think I Ain’t Worth a Dollar, but I Feel Like a Millionaire.” This sets the tone for the rest of the set and is equally consistent as the group’s go-to closing track, “A Song for the Dead.” This closer is arguably, one of their most successful singles coming from their fan favorite and closely titled album, Songs for the Deaf.

How long is Queens of the Stone Age concert?
The Queens have a tendency to get a bit ridiculous with their set. For example, the band has no problem jamming for 15 minutes following an especially riveting track, and this occurs at nearly every show. This also beefs up the set time making a scan of the setlist and studio recorded song length a bit obsolete. The shows run for close to an hour and a half, and the Queens flex every minute of it.
Who is opening the show?
Queens of the Stone Age is headlining with electronic metal outfit, Nine Inch Nails. The groups rotate the headlining slot and each plays their own extensive set. Interestingly, there is little onstage sharing between the band, which is better or worse depending on your preferences for their respective material. Ambitious rock singer, Brody Dalle, is opening the show with Nine Inch Nails. The Nine Inch Nails and Queens of the Stone Age tour is only in Australia, as of now. But the Queens are expected to continue touring on Like Clockwork through the summer and fall.
Does the band play any covers or new material?
Rarely, if ever, despite having members from Foo Fighters, Kyuss, Eagles of Death Metal, and the Dead Weather, the band sticks solely to their own material.
As far as new material, it is a question worth asking. Frontman Josh Homme recently said the band has more than enough songs to put together a new album, and they expect to record late 2014. As of yet, the band is keeping these songs under wraps and have yet to showcase any new material live.
Do the Queens play any songs by Kyuss?
Queens of the Stone are closely linked with the stoner metal band, Kyuss, sharing multiple members over the last twenty years. Though passing fans barely know them, hardcore fans are more than aware of their importance in the metal/rock scene and may be annoyed by the absence of any Kyuss material at the show.
Who is Queens of the Stone Age’s publicist and press contact?
Queens does not have a public media contact, but you may have some luck working through their current label, Matador. It is an indie print, and is surprisingly accessible.
You may have the best luck contacting Brigitte Green at brigittegreen@beggars.com.
Concert Reviews
“It was enough that the Queens of the Stone Age were alive, well and on top of their game, sending us home slicked with sweat in the middle of winter. Like clockwork, indeed.” – Nathan Smith of the Houston Press
“Every riff ricochets round your ribcage; every hydraulic beat whacks you round the kidneys. If you are lucky, you get some of the new bassist Michael Shuman’s long hair in your pint. The sometime singer comes and goes from this shape-shifting band like the best kind of ill wind.” – Kitty Empire of the Guardian
“While their ruthless live execution of spirit has been central to the band’s success in the past, new songs like “Kalopsia” and “…Like Clockwork” added a weight and contrast to the performance that elevated it from being a solid, high-energy rock show to something more uncomfortable and profound.” – Andrea Domanick of Las Vegas Weekly
