Bassnectar Tour
The electronic dance music DJ and producer Bassnectar was born as Lorin Ashton on February 19, 1977 in San Jose, California. His musical style is very eclectic, embracing elements from breakbeat, dubstep, extreme bass, hip hop, punk rock, and EDM music genres and styles. He is one of the most influential and popular figures in the California electronic music community. He is also known for his impressive light shows and energetic live performances. Over the years he has amassed a huge fan base. In 2012, his solo shows sold more than 220,000 tickets.
Bassnectar learned to play the guitar as a teenager and established an extreme metal group. In 1995, he went to his first rave event. He was immediately drawn to the rave scene’s music and sense of community. He began attending raves on a regular basis and helped to promote and organize events. In 1996, Bassnectar started to learn how to DJ. He attended University of California at Santa Cruz where he studied electronic music. He started to produce recordings for musicians. In 2001, he released his first album Freakbeat for the Beatfreaks. It was released on Amorphous Music, Bassnectar’s own label.
Bassnectar’s initial albums helped to gain him recognition in the indie electronic music scene. His 2004 album Diverse Systems of Throb was his breakthrough album, expanding his influence and fan base. Since that time, Bassnectar has released a continuous series of albums, podcasts and singles. He has collaborated with numerous artists, including Gogol Bordello, Buckethead, Perry Farrell, Ellie Goulding and KRS-One along with producers Rjd2, DJ Vadim, BT and Diplo. Bassnectar also is an extremely popular DJ, spinning at venues ranging from warehouses and clubs to festivals like Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and Coachella. In 2010, Bassnectar started his own festival called Bass Center Festival. It was held in Broomfield, Colorado and featured sets from performers such as Brother Ali, That 1 Guy and Dan Deacon.
