Scott Weiland Tour
The American vocalist, lyricist and musician Scott Weiland was born in San Jose, California on October 27, 1967. Weiland was formerly the frontman for Velvet Revolver and Stone Temple Pilots. He has also released three solo albums and since 1998 has collaborated with numerous musicians. The onstage persona of Weiland’s has been characterized as chaotic and flamboyant. Over the course of his career, he has constantly changed his vocal style and appearance. In concert, Weiland also sometimes uses a megaphone for vocal effects. Weiland is recognized as a versatile and talent vocalist. However, he has also been arrested several times and struggled with substance abuse.
Stone Temple Pilots was initially formed in 1986 under the name Might Joe Young. In 1992, the band released Core, their first album. Weiland performed vocals and wrote the lyrics for band. Stone Temple Pilots became one of the leading grunge music bands. In 1994, the band released Purple, their second album. The set was a big success. It sold more than 6 million copies and spawned three hit singles. Weiland became addicted to heroin but rejoined the band in fall 1995. The band released their third album Tiny Music, but had to cancel a majority of their tour to support the set and went into hiatus.
In 1998 Weiland released 12 Bar Blues, a solo album. He wrote a majority of the album’s songs and collaborated with other musicians, including Jeff Nolan, Brad Mehldau, Sheryl Crow and Daniel Lanois. The album was commercially unsuccessful but received some critical acclaim. In 1999, Stone Temple Pilots released an album called No. 4 and in 2001 Shangri-La Dee Da, the band’s fifth album. In 2002, Dean DeLeo and Weiland got into an altercation and Stone Tempe Pilots disbanded.
From 2004 through 2008, Weiland was a member of the hard rock supergroup Velvet Revolver, along with Matt Sorum, Duff McKagan and Slash from Guns N’ Roses and Dave Kushner of Wasted Youth. Stone Temple Pilots reunited in 2008 and went on a successful 73-date tour of the U.S. In 2008, Weiland also released a second solo album, Happy in Galoshes. The Stone Temple Pilots released their self-titled sixth album in 2010. In February 2013, Stone Temple Pilots confirmed that they had fired Weiland.
