Iron & Wine Tour
Iron & Wine is the recording and stage name for Samuel Beam, the American singer-songwriter. He was born in Chapin, South Carolina on July 26, 1974. Beam has released five albums along with several singles and EPs in addition to some download-only releases.
The Creek Drank the Cradle, Beam’s debut Iron & Wine album, was released in 2002 via Sub Pop. Beam wrote, performed, produced and recorded the album from his home studio. The album featured slide guitar, banjo and acoustic guitars. The musical style of the album has been compared with John Fahey, Neil Young, Elliott Smith, Simon and Garfunkel and Nick Drake. In 2002, Beam also covered “Such Great Heights,” an unreleased Postal Service song. His version of the song eventually appeared in the Garden State film and soundtrack.
In 2003, Beam released the EP The Sea & The Rhythm. In 2004, Our Endless Numbered Days, Beam’s second album, was released, followed by the EPs Woman King and In The Reins in 2005. In 2007, The Shepherd’s Dog, the third Iron & Wine studio album, was released. It spawned the single “Boy with a Coin.” The album debuted in the No. 24 spot on Billboard’s 200 chart. In 2011, the fourth Iron & Wine album Kiss Each Other Clean was released, followed by Ghost on Ghost, the fifth studio album, in April 2013. Ghost on Ghost marks a departure in style from Beam’s previous albums, exhibiting pop and jazz influences and a more relaxed approach and style.
