Furthur Tour
The rock band Furthur was established in 2009 by Phil Lesh and Bob Weir, former members of Grateful Dead. The lineup for the band also includes drummer Joe Russo from Benevento/Russo Duo, RatDog’s Jeff Chimenti on keyboards, and guitarist John Kadlecik from Dark Star Orchestra. Following Furthur’s show on March 12, 2010 Jay Lane left the group to rejoin Primus, the American rock/metal band.
Phil Lesh and Bob Weir, after a four year break, began to once again perform together in 2008 with The Dead. Just a couple months after the 2009 Dead tour, Weir and Lesh announced they were forming a new band along with Russo, Lane, Chimenti and Kadlecik.
The band made their debut with performances in September 2009 in Oakland, California at Fox theatre. The shows were followed up with several additional dates in 2009, include 5 northeast shows, two shows on New Years in California and a live rehearsal session. Joining the band for their performances on New Years Eve were backing vocalists Sunshine Garcia Becker and Zoe Ellis. Becker and Ellis stayed on for the rest of the tour. In February and March 2010, the band went on a tour of the U.S. To celebrate the 70th birthday of Phil Lesh, Furthur performed in San Francisco.
Furthur performed at three summer music festivals in 2010, including Nateva Music & Camping Festival on July 4 in Oxford, ME; All Good Music Festival on July 8-9 in Masontown, WV and Gathering Of The Vibes on July 29-August 1 in Bridgeport CT. “Further Festival” was held in Angels Camp, CA at Mountain Aire on May 28-30 for Memorial Day weekend.
In 2011, Further will be touring the east coast, kicking off in Boston on March 4. The outing will include multiple night runs at smaller venues than their winter 2010 tour. The 2011 trek includes a run of five nights at Best Buy Theater and three nights at Radio City in New York City along with a run of 5 nights in Upper Darby, PA at Tower Theater as well as other east coast dates in March.
