Frequently Asked Questions
What songs will Dave Matthews Band play in concert?
Dave Matthews is one of the most prolific touring bands in the entire history of rock music, a status they easily lead into today. The group has a few very common tropes for their live show.
1. They always add in some obscure cuts.
2. They skip a lot of major singles.
3. They jam out and extend a big song of choice
Dave Matthews continues these typical tropes for their latest shows, in a number of ways. The group brings out “Grey Street” from their 2002 album, Busted Stuff. It is an interesting, if not altogether fitting title considering the group was in a weird place in the early millennium, after their biggest singles yet preceding their late 2000’s ‘second wind.’ Other more obscure deep album cuts include “Tripping Billies” from their mid-90’s masterpiece, Crash, and Stand Up’s odd tune, “You Might Die Trying.”
The second trope is why they skip a lot of big massive hits. Considering they have so many, this seems a bit inevitable. This year they manage to bypass big tunes such as “Ants Marching” and “Crash Into Me.” The latter may be a big miss for fans, considering it is probably the biggest hit of their career and a fan favorite. They make up for it by playing “What Would You Say” from their debut Under the Table and Dreaming and “Satellite” from their sophomore record.
The last major trope is their notorious jam session that tends to cycle around all major players in the band and goes on for close to 15 minutes at times. The big jam here is often in “Don’t Drink the Water” or the group’s rendition of Neil Young’s clever, “The Needle and the Damage Done.”
The group closes this tour with a new song, “Shake Me Like a Monkey,” which is a little odd. But they really make it work by closing it in grand orchestration. The setlist will certainly have a few major omissions, but the group’s prolific touring schedule and tendency to shake it up makes this part of their charm and wide appeal.
This means the setlist below is so rough and estimated that it only really represents a general trend from a band that prides itself in changing songs, from big simples to forgotten gems, each and every night.

Concert Reviews
“Like life, which really has no straight roads, a DMB show is a journey down twisting and turning byways. The difference is that there are no speed bumps, no orange barrels, but there ARE plenty of fascinating side roads. A hint came from violinist Boyd Tinsley’s sizzling break during the set-opening 10-minute foray into “Dancing Nancies.’’ Chuck Yarborough of Cleveland Press
“In an industry where aging rockers routinely spend their lives trying to innovate in an attempt to stay relevant, the Dave Matthews Band has had its own strategy.
Find a sound, build a fan base and then give the people what they want for two decades. So when Matthews took the BOK Center stage Wednesday night, the crowd knew what it was in for, and the band played to its strengths.” – Dylan Goforth of Tulsa Press
“The surprises took over from there, first with Matthews approximating a slight Gainesville whine to perfectly nail a version of Tom Petty’s “Running Down A Dream,” followed by an appearance from jazz guitar great Stanley Jordan who pitched in on songs “The Dreaming Tree,” and “Rhyme and Reason.” – Donnie Moorhouse of MassLive
