The Canadian actor and recording artist Drake was born in Toronto, Ontario on October 24, 1986. He first became known for his Jimmy Brooks television role on the show “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” He also became popular as a rapper after releasing several mixtapes. The most successful was “So Far Gone.”
Drake signed with Young Money Entertainment, Lil Wayne’s record label, in June 2009. In 2009 he released an EP entitled “So Far Gone,” which launched his career. The EP spawned “Successful” and the hit song “Best I Ever Had.” Drake released “Thank Me Later,” his debut studio album, in June 2010. It debuted in the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s 200 chart. The album went platinum and spawned the hit singles “Find Your Love” and “Over.” “Take Care,” Drake’s second album,” was released in 2011. It topped both the Canadian and U.S. charts and spawned several hit singles, including “The Motto,” “Make Me Proud,” “Take Care” and “Headlines.” Drake has also written songs for other artists, including Jamie Foxx and Alicia Keys. He has also continued acting. His latest appearance was in the 2012 film Ice Age: Continental Drift.
To date Drake has sold more than 5 million worldwide albums. He has won three BET Awards and three Juno Awards. He also holds several Billboard records, including the most No. 1 singles (12) on the Billboard Rap Songs chart. His ten No. 1 singles is the most for the Billboard chart R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Club Paradise, Drake’s latest world tour, was the highest grossing hip-hop tour in 2012, with revnues of more than 42 million dollars.
The biggest influences for Drake’s music are Lil Wayne, Aaliyah, Jay-Z and Kanye West. He is current working on his third album.
