The American rapper, producer, actor and songwriter Eminem was born October 17, 1972 as Marshall Bruce Mathers III in St. Joseph, Missouri. Eminem also has an alter ego named Slim Shady. In addition to his solo career, Eminem also performs with the group D12. He also is half of the hip hop duet Bad Meets Evil with the rapper Royce da 5’9″. Eminem was the best-selling record artist of the 2000 decade. For his work combined, Eminem has 10 number one albums on the Billboard 200 chart. He has sold over 100 million worldwide records.
In 1996, Eminem released Infinite, his first solo album. It was a commercial and critical failure. In 1999, he achieved mainstream success after releasing Slim Shady LP. He won the Best Rap Album Grammy Award and the album went triple platinum. His next two albums also won Best Rap Albums: his 2000 release Marshall Mathers LP as well as the 2002 album The Eminem Show. The Marshal Mathers LP sold 1.76 million copies during the first week of its release. The Eminem Show went 10x platinum. Encore was released in 2004. Eminem, after his 2005 tour, went on a hiatus. Eminem released Relapse, his sixth studio album, in 2009. In 2010 Recovery, Eminem’s seventh studio album, was released. It was 2010’s worldwide top selling album. Relapse as well as Recovery each won a Grammy Award, bringing Eminem’s total to 13 Grammys.
Eminem’s other business ventures includes Shady Records. He opened the record label with manager Paul Rosenberg. Eminem also has a Sirius XM Radio channel called Shade 45. In 2005, Eminem launched his acting career. He starred in the movie 8 Mile and also had cameo appearances in the 2001 movie The Wash, the 2009 film Funny People and on the television program Entourage.
