MGMT Tour
The psychedelic rock band MGMT was established by Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser in 2002 at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut while the two were freshmen art students. After the band’s first album was released, live band members Will Berman, James Richardson and Matthew Asti joined as full members. The band originally signed with Cantora Records. In 2006, they signed with Red Ink and Columbia Records.
In 2005, after graduating from Wesleyan, the band released Time To Pretend, a six track EP, via Cantora Records. They toured extensively to support the EP and opened for Of Montreal, an indie pop band.
In 2007, MGMT released Oracular Spectacular, their first album. It debuted at No. 12 spot on UK’s album chart, No. 6 on the ARIA chart in Australia and made it to No. 13 on the RIANZ charts in New Zealand. The album peaked in the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers chart and No. 38 on Billboard’s 200 chart. Three singles were released: “Kids,” “Electric Feel” and “Time to Pretend.” “Kids” peaked in the No. 91 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
In 2010, MGMT received a Grammy Award nomination as Best New Artist. In April 2010, the band released Congratulations, their second album. Congratulations peaked in the No. 2 spot on Billboard’s 200 chart and made the top ten in the UK, Switzerland, Canada and Australia. The album spawned four singles: “Congratulations,” “It’s Working,’ “Siberian Breaks” and “Flash Delirium.” MGMT started working on the band’s third album in January 2011. The band released a single “Alien Days” in April 2013. The album is set to be released later in 2013.
