John Mayer 2013 Born and Raised Tour Starts in July
John Mayer is Back! proclaims the singer-songwriter’s official website before imploring you to use the hashtag #MayerisBack.
And he is – Mayer finally will embark on the Born and Raised tour this summer, just over a year after he canceled the originally scheduled version of the tour due to throat problems. The tour kicks off at the Summerfest event in Milwaukee on July 6, and the extensive jaunt will remain on the road through an October 5 show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. In between, the trek will hit a ton of cities in North America, including Dallas, Toronto, Tampa, Atlanta, Albuquerque, Phoenix and San Diego.
He will even briefly visit South America during the tour. On September 17, he will perform at Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and on September 21 he will make an appearance at the Rock in Rio Festival in Rio De Janeiro.
Mayer also has a few concerts scheduled before the tour kicks off. First, he will appear two nights at the Crossroads Guitar Festival put on by Eric Clapton in New York on April 12-13. He will then appear at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction on April 18, at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on April 25 and at the New Orleans Jazz Festival on April 26.
Since he’s been gone, Mayer has underwent two surgeries to repair a granuloma in his throat. The singer spoke to Billboard recently about his ordeal, and said at one point he thought he might never be able to sing again.
“I spent so long being terrorized, I had all but shut down the fantasy of playing music again – just so I could, you know, survive,” he tells the magazine.
He said the problem was made worse by constant touring and a persistent acid-reflux problems that was made worse by poor diet and drinking.
